Well Caffeinated

http://www.healthnewsline.net/caffeinated-coffee-improves-vascular-function/2531337/

I would classify myself as a casual coffee drinker.  I haven't yet made it to a daily cup of joe.  I drink it occasionally when I'm feeling really lethargic or when I'm freezing my junk off at work.  I lean towards a light roast (cream & sugar), flavored coffees (i.e. french vanilla, caramel), lattes, and of course the ever-famous Dunkaccino.  For die hard coffee drinkers, what I drink doesn't constitute as "coffee."

Seeing as how I'm a lightweight when it comes to coffee, I have noticed that certain brands of coffee seem to have more of an effect on me than others.  I'm guessing this has to do with their caffeine levels, either that or I'm misreading my heart palpitations and should seek medical help.  At first I thought it was only Starbucks coffee which resulted in a few hours of jitters.  Now I can add Bruegger's coffee to the list.  As good as my medium french vanilla with two sugars and 2% milk was, I am still feeling my heart beat in my throat and temples three hours later.  Whoa baby!  This got me wondering just how much more caffeine a coffee at Bruegger's possesses.  The International Coffee Organization reports that the average cup of coffee consists of 80-115 mg of caffeine.  With that said, here's how the usual places stack up:

Afternoon Siesta

So after four long days off filled with holiday eating, this fat-kid could really use an afternoon siesta.  Unfortunately in America a nap during the workday is frowned upon.  So I'll start the count down to five o'clock and consume a few caffeinated beverages between now and then.  By the time I'm done with supper later, I'll be ready to snuggle up on the couch and call it a night. Who's with me?

Speaking of caffeinated beverages, the Dunkin Donuts Mint Hot Chocolate has taken that special place in my heart normally reserved for the Dunkaccino.  Boy that stuff is good, but pretty heavy on the calories... all 310 of them!  I'll have to enjoy them now before everyone else's New Year's resolutions kick in worse than Catholic guilt.  Supposedly after January 1st, I should be replacing my preferred caffeinated beverages for two black coffees a day while chomping on almonds in order to boost my metabolism.  Well, seeing as how I don't like black coffee I can cut those calories out and exchange them for two glasses of red wine, although in America this is also frowned upon during the workday... oyyy, I should have been born European.

Vapor

Last Friday night we went to Vapor with friends.  Dunkin Donuts croissanwiches, lemon drops and white russians make for a bit of a belly ache but fortunately staved off a hangover.  I don't know why I don't order white russians more often.  They are like alcoholic chocolate milk on steroids.  I was also enjoying my lemon drops until one round came made with salt. Epic fail.

At any rate, we were quite enjoying ourselves despite the sodium shocker. So much so that references from The Ringer and toasts ending in "f*&%# Megan" ensued.  Megan was one of the evening's giveaway winners who was unfortunate enough to win a men's watch as opposed to the $10k grand prize engagement ring.  I won a t-shirt, which btw was large enough to join my nightshirt collection.  Hey, at least its soft.

Our evening was not without another "white pants" ensemble, although this time the pants were worn by an adorable Asian-American gentleman whom we decided to adopt along with an older black man who was a fun time, Hip-Hop Grandma, and Thing 1 and Thing 2 (gender unknown but great dancers). However I am leaving out the star of the show: Dolly Parton's twin sister who was rocking 4 inch periwinkle stilettos which perfectly matched her cocktail dress and large feather earrings. They accented her double-d frame well.

It's at this point in the evening that I decide to start writing things down on a napkin so that all the fun from the evening is not forgotten and can be shared on the blog. See how I think of you? Well it was a good idea but proof why I don't actually order white russians more often...they go down too smooth and make fodder for songs like Katie Perry's "Last Friday Night".
