Turning Six Summary

Much like the rest of our lives right now, turning six for Jayson seemed to occur in fast forward.  He started Kindergarten in September and continued to play soccer and tee ball, so on evenings and weekends we shuttled from practice to game and back home to devour quick bites and shower up to do it all again the next day. The day of Jayson's 6th Birthday Party was no different.  We had cousins arrive the night before, we hustled off to his tee ball game in the morning, and then we rushed to Get Hooked Kickboxing for his Ninja themed party, where he did a quick change in the car and we were *this close* to being late.

Despite all the rushing around, year six is/was stellar year for Jayson.  He started Kindergarten and began learning to read.  He also learned how to tie his shoes and ride his bike without training wheels.  All of his parent/teacher conferences went fairly well.  He continues to be the class clown.  For their mother's day project, he guessed I was 51 (gee thanks kid!)  He adores being the center of attention and gaining laughs and squeals from his friends and family, however, he has a hard time dialing it back when he should. He doesn't like his gym teacher, and I get the sense the feeling is mutual.  On his report card, her write up specifically stated he had a hard time staying in his seat.  I didn't know gym class had assigned seats, or was sedentary for that matter, but he passed Kindergarten despite her continued low grades for him.  He had a similar dislike for his music class, but again it boils down to being a six year old boy with a short attention span and the desire to move, and laugh, and interact.  We found out that he loves the school nurse though and frequently visits her office.  She gave him a neat little necklace for when he lost his first tooth.  It was a year of firsts, that's for sure.  He attended his first concert courtesy of his Nanny.  It was to see Kidz Bop at SPAC.  And he even went on a cruise to the Bahamas with my parents and siblings.  Not his first cruise, but his first time to the Bahamas.  He's one lucky kid!

Some things never change though.  He's still best friends with Kenzie and Jackson, two kids he practically grew up with from infancy.  He still considers stroganoff one of his favorite foods.  He thinks his dad walks on water and makes clothing choices and hair styles based on whether or not he can match with his father.  He lives for Saturday mornings when they get up and play video games together, although with both of them being so competitive the bickering between them doesn't sound very fun.  We frequently need to address his use (correct) use of curse words, thanks to his father's vocabulary, but they do say that folks who swear are actually highly intelligent so I guess there's still hope.  Either way, he is still such a happy go lucky boy.

Now for the boring stuff:

Height:  he clocked in at 3' 9.75," just shy of the requirement for a few of the rides at Great Wolf Lodge and even at the fair.  This measurement puts him in the 52nd percentile.  What can I say, his dad and I aren't that tall.

Weight:  49lb, thank goodness for adjustable waist bands from Children's Place.  This puts him in the 70th percentile for weight, but I have a hard time agreeing with that.  He's such a bean pole.

My dear Jayson,
Every single day since the day you were born
you've added something amazing to my life and
I can't imagine a life without you in it.
I hope you know just how much your Dad and I love you!
I'll love you forever, I'll like you for always,
As long as I'm living, my baby you'll be.
