Memorable Memorial Day Weekend

I concur with whoever coined the phrase that there aren't enough hours in a day.  This weekend we had three whole days, aka 72 hours, and boy did we make the most of the hours we had.  We had invitations to parties for all three days and we also had plans to get some more work done at the house as well as vegetables and flowers to plant.

Saturday we were up by 7:00 am to begin ripping out the carpet in the stairwell.  I have a new appreciation for vice grips as they were quite helpful in removing the residual staples from the steps.  Afterwards we headed out to Agway for some plants (banana peppers, zucchini, marigolds and some purple perennial,) a new light fixture for the hallway, and to refill our propane tank for the BBQ.  After dropping the plants at home we headed to Lowes for some paint, doors for the upstairs hall closet, and some other odds and ends (we can always find something we "need" there). Finally it was time to take in our first Memorial Day party of the weekend at the Tefts which included some volleyball, bar-b-q, and Wild Turkey Honey shots.  While we were there we got the call from Justin's sister that she got engaged, so on our way home from the party we stopped to congratulate the happy couple (and scope out the ring- look at that puppy!!)

Lowes, Screws & a Mailbox

I never realized just how much can be squeezed into one tiny weekend.  Let's recap:

Saturday:

We got up early to finish gutting out the ceiling and ripping up the floor to our upstairs bathroom and then took all the debris to MOSA.  On the return trip to the house we witnessed the local snowplow take out our mailbox.  If it weren't for bad luck, we'd have no luck at all.  Calling to complain to the Department of Public Works really got me nowhere, so shoving the mailbox out of mind we then had a very expensive (but exciting!) shopping excursion at Lowes.  We purchased our tile, the vanity, faucet fixtures, the medicine cabinet and all the other building supplies.  The lighting fixture we wanted was busted and they only had one in stock so we forewent that purchase.  When we got home my dad came over and helped change out the piping in the bathroom as the current pipes were a.) 50+ years old, and b.) were installed with all too many "unions" in the floor of all places.

Furry Friday: Give a dog a bone

The things we do for our dog...

The other night Justin makes a pitstop at Agway to get a replacement bulb for our back  porch light.  He also, feeling "Christmasy," buys Riley a carrot squeak toy and Apache a funny little corn cob guy.  Feeling badly that he didn't have anything to give to Riley today, he found the perfect sized cow bone.  Normally we have a hard time finding the right sized bone for Riley because, well, Riley's a little guy but he's too aggressive for the small bones designed for dogs his size and the big bones are way out of his league.

Awwwbany Shopping

Oh how I miss Albany shopping ("Awwwbany" as a friend of mine says).  Albany has the convenience of being 5 minutes from just about any store you could want or need.  Don't get me wrong, where I live now I kind of have the best of both worlds.  I live on a country road but I am still 5 minutes from a Price Chopper, a Wal-Mart, an Agway, a handful of pizza places, a movie theater, and a small shopping plaza.  However, as you can probably already guess, the store selection is very limited and most close around six p.m.  A new store is in development by my workplace and it was rumored to be Target (aka Tar-Jay).  Boy was I excited!  Well I was until I heard officially that it's TJ Max instead.  Don't hoot and holler - I like TJ Max too, just not as much as I love me some Tar-Jay
