WE ARE FINALLY USING THE UPSTAIRS OF OUR HOUSE. That's right. The bathroom is done and now that the carpet is in, we've moved all our bedroom furniture up. I even have curtains that are from this century. It feels so luxurious. And thanks to Pinterest, I will be making a "family wall" going up the stairwell. Justin and my dad still have to install the doors they made for the hall closet, but that's a minor detail compared to what we started with upstairs.
Musings on life, candid reviews, and other such nonsense... who am I kidding? This has become a mom blog, plain and simple.

Furry Friday: Soaking It Up
As you may recall, Justin and I have been renovating the upstairs bathroom. I have to admit, Justin and my dad have been doing most of the work. I've helped with the demolition, provided creative vision, selected items for the decor, and of course I'm helping support the project financially. Justin and my dad kid around that I'm the project manager, but in reality I'm an extra brain to pick and I'm the person they send to the hardware store when they need something. Whichever way you look at it, our little arrangement works and the bathroom is coming out great. Looking at it now, it's hard to believe it started out as a plastic pink tile mess with a mismatched tub surround and peeling wallpaper. We now have fresh drywall and beautiful porcelain tile that mimics the look of natural stone. The best part is we're just few steps away from the finished product reveal, so stay tuned!

Lowes, Screws & a Mailbox
I never realized just how much can be squeezed into one tiny weekend. Let's recap:
Saturday:
Saturday:
We got up early to finish gutting out the ceiling and ripping up the floor to our upstairs bathroom and then took all the debris to MOSA. On the return trip to the house we witnessed the local snowplow take out our mailbox. If it weren't for bad luck, we'd have no luck at all. Calling to complain to the Department of Public Works really got me nowhere, so shoving the mailbox out of mind we then had a very expensive (but exciting!) shopping excursion at Lowes. We purchased our tile, the vanity, faucet fixtures, the medicine cabinet and all the other building supplies. The lighting fixture we wanted was busted and they only had one in stock so we forewent that purchase. When we got home my dad came over and helped change out the piping in the bathroom as the current pipes were a.) 50+ years old, and b.) were installed with all too many "unions" in the floor of all places.

Demo
Demo. Short for Demolition. Both a noun and an adjective which capture fully the state of my life right now. Ever since we moved in to the new house we have had these elaborate plans to finish the upstairs so that we could expand our family, if you know what I mean.
So in the first two years one we found out just how fun it was to remove layers (plural) of wallpaper, to spackle (less is more), and to prime/paint. We mastered the art of changing out light fixtures, electrical outlets, light switches, thermostats and also how to create a textured ceiling.
