A Much Needed Weekend

After being exceptionally busy at work, having my clothes dryer die, and having to switch Jayson's daycare I can definitely say I needed the weekend to regroup.  The weather was fairly nice, albeit chilly, and we managed to get some much needed down time in and also some dreaded seasonal tasks accomplished.

Saturday we had a nice visit with our friends Paul and Cait who have recently announced they are expecting their first child.  Our visit was full of talk about all things baby.  It also gave them some time to get some snuggles in with Jayson.  Paul is actually Jayson's godfather and because they live a few hours away it's infrequent that we see them.

Later we headed over to Elise and Dan's apartment for supper.  On the menu was a roast chicken, corn casserole, mashed potatoes and mixed veggies followed by pumpkin pie.  It's always a feast when Elise cooks which was a nice treat for Justin and I as we've been a little lax in the cooking department as of late.  Hey, we have a baby...

Sunday was spent getting yard work done.  Fingers crossed this is the last time Justin will have to mow for the season.  Probably not the last time, however, that he'll have to use the leaf sweeper.  We also managed to switch out our summer and winter clothes.  At the same time I boxed up Jayson's three months and 3-6 month sized clothing.   So sad that he is growing up so quickly.

Speaking of Jayson, this being his second week at daycare I'm hoping it goes better than the first.  For whatever reason, whether it be just because it was all new or if he's starting to get a cold, he decided to change up his schedule.  He boycotted a bottle a day and decided to take much longer naps than usual, the combination of which totally threw off his eating and sleeping schedule at home which had me a little stressed out.  I was probably driving the new caretaker batty, but the little guy is my world and any change for a normally regimented and happy child is cause for concern. After some reading on the internet, I scared myself thinking he could be reverse cycling or switching up his days and nights.  Any one else experience this with their five/six month olds?

Graceful

This morning Justin and I thought there was a deranged bird chirping close to the house.  It was so annoying, it woke us up before the alarm.  I hate when that happens.  Needless to say, upon further investigation it was not a bird but one of our fire alarms begging for new batteries.  So I set out to change them, which required some form of step stool.  Since my handy-dandy step stool is always missing from the hall cabinet (eh-hem, Justin) I decided to use one of the kitchen stools from the breakfast bar.  Well, this was not a good idea.

Furry Friday: Sleepy Boy

With the onset of Fall, I can honestly say I myself have been sleepier than usual.  Getting up when it's dark out to get ready for work is a total bummer.  By the time I get home and sit down to dinner, it's dark out.  Pretty soon it'll be back to the old routine of driving into work in the dark and driving home from work in the dark.  The days will be severely shortened and I'll start to feel like Al Pacino's character in Insomnia.  Well, maybe not that tired because I am not subjected to the six months of darkness that Alaska experiences, but you get my drift.

There is someone else in our household who is much sleepier lately.  Riley is just about to go into all out hibernation mode here.  It's colder and darker now which means all he wants to do is snuggle and sleep.  It makes it especially hard for me to leave him in the mornings because, likewise, all I want to do is snuggle and sleep.  And he's so cute at it, just look at my sleepy boy:

Feeling Fall-ish

I have to say that Fall is probably my favorite season.  It's not too hot, it's not too cold, it doesn't rain as much as April/May, I can still get sweet corn, apple cider donuts are abundant, apple cider is fresh, I got married in the fall, fall attire is flattering... the list goes on and on.  However, one of my all time favorite things about fall is decorating.  More so than Christmas.  I don't go as nutsy with fall decor as I do with my Christmas decor and I think that's what I like about it.  It's subtle and easy to set up and take down.

I don't decorate for "Halloween," per say, I decorate once for the whole Fall season.  Halloween is just one day and we don't get any trick-or-treaters anyway so I can decorate to my heart's content with all other kinds of fall-ish items.  Place mats, pumpkins, eggplants/gourds, cute scarecrows, scented candles and leaf wreaths just to name a few.  Plus I'm an earth-tone person when it comes to my normal decor in the first place.  I like browns, beiges, maroons, sages... these are my colors.

Furry Friday: Fall Fashionista

Holy coldness!!!  Where did last night's temperatures come from?  We were in the low thirties in Upstate NY and I refuse to turn the heat on just yet.  We did however have a fire going in our fireplace which did help keep the edge off.  The house stayed at about sixty-five all night which was ok, but still a little chilly.  As my Grandpa Dank would say "it's good sleeping weather." Sleeping weather or not, it was time to pull out some warmer clothes for Riley.  Yes, I said for Riley.
