Meet Ace Bolivar

November 3, 2014 I received a text confirming the availability of a dapple wirehaired dachshund pup in Ohio.  A dance party ensues in my son's room.  Jayson doesn't quite understand it, but he's happy enough to rock his signature "happy feet" moves while mommy and daddy excitedly talk about the prospect of adopting another dog and all the logistics that go along with it.

Justin and I had just started searching online for wirehaired dachshund puppies in the tri-state area, reaching out to a few breeders and fully expecting to be on a wait-list until the Spring or even next fall.  We weren't having much luck.  Wirehaired dachshunds aren't that common to begin with, let alone a dapple.  We both really liked the look of dapple dachshunds but for allergy purposes, a wirehaired dachshund is the way to go. As soon as we got the text, we decided right then and there we were going to adopt this little dude with one blue eye.  The best part?  We didn't have to wait long to meet him.  He was ready to go that Wednesday following his check up at the vet.  So we drove eight hours out Thursday night to Bolivar (pronounced oliver with a "b"), brainstormed names the whole way, picked him up Friday morning and then drove eight hours home to introduce him to his new BFF Jayson.  The name we finally decided on was Ace Bolivar.  Ace was easy enough for Jayson to pronounce and Bolivar to pay homage to his hometown.

We're only on day four of his addition to our family, but Ace and Jayson have gotten along fairly well.  Ace wants to follow Jayson everywhere and Jayson wants to give him kisses all the time.  It warms my heart to think this is the beginning of a wonderful friendship for them.

Welcome to our little family Ace Bolivar Krueger.  We love you already.

Furry Friday: Faux Hawk

As you can see, during his Furry Friday hiatus Riley has been very busy growing out his hair for the upcoming winter months.  His wire hair certainly lends itself to some super styles.  Who else do you know that can rock a faux hawk sans hair product??  This guy right here.

Furry Friday: Doxie Ornament

TGIF!  You know what that means.  A Riley Chance related post.  Every year around Christmas Justin and I scramble to find a new Dachshund calendar that at least has one photo in it representative of our breed of dachshund.  It's a hard feat since Riley is a reddish-brown wire-haired (I think the technical term for his coloring is wild boar) whereas the standard wire-haired looks more like a Scottish-Terrier with black and silver coloring.  We also scour the shelves for dachshund ornaments, again finding plenty of smooth coat  and long-haired dachshund renditions but no wire-haired. Well, yesterday our luck was about to change.  I arrived home to a package from my Aunt Cheryl.  She has really outdone herself this time.  A dachshund ornament that is "furry" like Riley with a red collar.  It's made of recycled wool which gives it a wire-haired appearance.  And it's "earth friendly."  Not too shabby!  As you can see I couldn't wait to get this guy on the tree!

Furry Friday: Chatty Cathy

It's been a while since I've written a Furry Friday post.  As wonderful as my dog is, I've found it difficult to come up with new and exciting things to say about him (gasp!)  He does so many cute and quirky things throughout the week, but come Friday I have a writers block.  I really need to start writing things down when they happen and then Friday's posts will be much better prepared.

Furry Friday: Fall Fashionista

Holy coldness!!!  Where did last night's temperatures come from?  We were in the low thirties in Upstate NY and I refuse to turn the heat on just yet.  We did however have a fire going in our fireplace which did help keep the edge off.  The house stayed at about sixty-five all night which was ok, but still a little chilly.  As my Grandpa Dank would say "it's good sleeping weather." Sleeping weather or not, it was time to pull out some warmer clothes for Riley.  Yes, I said for Riley.
