No Spring Chicken

This weekend I had the great idea to repaint our spare bedroom.  Well actually, it was more like chain of great ideas which included repainting our former bedroom and making it the new spare and then repainting what was the current spare bedroom and making it into a playroom.  Also mix in wanting to repaint the hallway.  All easier said than done.  I'm not sure if it's my "nesting" phase kicking in but I'm fairly certain that second trimester energy is much like my appetite lately:  my eyes are bigger than my stomach...er...my goals outweigh my current burst of energy.  Something like that.

Furry Friday: Muttluks

About a week ago I went to bed in Upstate New York and woke up in Antartica.  I kid you not.  All week long each day has started out below zero and only reached a high of eight degrees midday.  Insanity!  This of course leads to a number of things - the hubs is upset that it's too cold to snow any sort of accumulation for snowmobiling (we have had some crappy years for that) and I intake more calories than normal in the mornings by packing a hot cocoa for the ride to work.  Not to mention the dog has decided he's striking on anything related to going outside, and that includes bathroom breaks.  I swear he thinks he can cross his legs until springtime.

Lollygagging & Other Oddness

Today I am dragging butt, and any other expression out there that depicts tiredness and sluggishness.  We attended a viewing last night for a former coworker of Justin's and stayed out past Cinderella's curfew.  Well, not really.  We were home before midnight but with the ever growing child in my midsection, anything past 8:00pm feels like midnight.  As sad as last night's event was, it was actually nice to see and catch up with many folks we haven't seen in at least a year since he switched jobs.  Many have married, expanded their families, and even started companies since we last saw them.  And yet it felt like we'd never missed a beat.  That in and of itself was comforting considering the circumstances.  I think I've found my New Year's Resolution for 2013: make more time for catching up at predetermined pleasant events as opposed to at funerals.

Back to my original thought though, where do expressions like "dragging butt," "lollygagging," and the like come from?  Visually I imagine dragging butt as a man dragging a donkey through a task (donkey = ass, ass = butt.)  Donkey's can be stubborn and I'm sure dragging one of them around could make for a long day.  This is of course an uneducated guess.  Likewise, lollygagging for me really doesn't make sense when I try to think it through literally.  Lollygagging means to procrastinate or waste time.  Visually I imagine someone choking on a lollipop but I'm fairly positive it's not an equal translation.  Although sitting around sucking on a lollipop could be considered a waste of time, similar to "eating bonbons" (which, btw, I've still yet to try.)

And totally unrelated to the above paragraph (just call me Jessie - "oooh shiny"- those who know my sister will know what I mean) my left eye is watering today.  Not itchy, not painful, not red.  Just deciding to tear up sporadically.  I'm thinking it's a side effect of tiredness and possibly pregnancy (I blame everything on pregnancy.)   I'm hoping it's not a cold starting.

Thoughts?

Foot rub anyone?

I feel like I've been going non-stop for a week straight.  This is a feat in and of itself considering most days I don't feel like I can get out of first gear, so to be going non-stop is really quite the accomplishment for me.

This past week was a huge payroll period for me since it was the start of the second semester.  There was also a freak snow storm midweek on payday and as much as I wanted to stay home in bed, I made the trek to work to hand out paychecks.  Plus I had a hair appointment that evening that I didn't want to miss.  Well, needless to say it never fails that my hair appointments land on bad weather days and end up rescheduled.  So instead I made follow up phone calls to vendors for my sister-in-law's bridal shower.  Thursday I finally got my hair done, it's a little more red than anticipated but a much needed change none the less.  Friday was the Midyear Mingle on Campus which my committee is in charge of, and so I spent most of the day on my feet setting up and working the event.  Ouch.  I have never felt my feet throb before, I'm going to assume its a side effect of pregnancy.  Who knew carrying around a half baked fetus could cause that much pressure on the old feet?  After work on Friday Justin and I met with a local daycare provider.  I need to call and set up a few more places for comparison, but I felt it went pretty well.  But I tell you, by the time we got home I have never been more happy to put my feet up.  However, the week wasn't over.

Predictive Advertising?

While I was listening to Shawn & Richie this morning on my ride into work, they were going back and forth about the types of advertisements they were seeing on their personal Facebook pages.  It's no secret that Facebook is a huge data miner and tracks our every thought and move through status updates, our "likes", and more complicated technical things like "cookies."

I never really pay too much attention to the advertisements on my Facebook page, namely because I use the application on my phone which sort of cuts that junk out.  However, it peaked my curiosity and so on break today I decided to check my page the old-school way on the computer.  I thought for sure with all my postings about our impending bundle of joy that there would be Huggies advertisements and Motherhood Maternity stuff popping up like nobody's business.  Wrong.  Interestingly enough from my posts and likes they have deduced the following about this here pregnant woman:

Furry Friday: Prep your pup

Seeing as how I'm half-baked, well the baby is anyway, I am getting more and more nervous about how well my other little man is going to handle the new addition.  Riley has been our baby for the last five years and 1.) I don't want him to feel less loved, 2.) I don't want him to become a monster either.  A lot of different parenting and baby magazines have tips and tricks for prepping your pup for the arrival of a baby, however they all seem very "fluff."
  • Practice walking your pooch with your stroller prior to the baby's birth
  • Download sounds of a baby crying and play it sporatically through the day/night.
  • Carry around a baby doll
  • Have your husband bring a receiving blanket home one night while you are still at the hospital to familiarize the dog with the scent
  • Have your husband bring the baby in when you come home

Out with the old

Happy New Year!  Surprisingly I made it past midnight but truth be told I am still dragging butt two whole days later.  Thankfully my husband is more of a morning person.  While I struggled to get showered and dressed this morning he fed and walked the dog, brought the garbage cans back up from the street, showered and got dressed, and managed to make me coffee.  He's a regular miracle worker.  At any rate, I hope everyone enjoyed their holidays and some much needed time off.  I know I did.

A friend and fellow blogger did a nice little recap of her year over at Our Saratoga Life, so let's just say I've been inspired to do the same.  According to my blog's analytics, I've had 10,045 views to date across ten different countries with Russia being the second highest viewing country to the USA.  Apparently I have a fan base there, who knew?  (Hello Russia!!)  My top five most popular posts included GTL Again, Furry Friday: 10 Commandments, Well Caffeinated, Bermuda, and Furry Friday: Sidelined Slumber.  Nice to see a few Furry Friday posts made it in there.  2012 was a pretty exciting year for Justin and I.  We celebrated 3 years of marriage, a trip to Bermuda and we found out we're expecting our first child.  Those are the biggies, but blogging has helped me to catalog all the other little things my pregnant brain has trouble remembering on its own.
